Meet the Doctors

Matt Paxton Dr. Paxton is from Alcoa and has lived in the Knoxville area his entire life. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree. He attended Ross University in St. Kitts for the first three years of veterinary school, and completed his clinical rotations at Colorado State University, where he met Dr. Wallis. He obtained his DVM with a focus on equine, and has been practicing in the Knoxville area since graduation. He quickly built up a reputation for providing high-quality care and lameness diagnosis/treatment. He provides dedicated medical and surgical care for all breeds and disciplines of horses, with a focus on sports medicine, performance management, and successful reproduction. Dr. Paxton enjoys playing golf, gardening, and spending time with his wife, Brittany. |

Rachel Buffkin Dr. Rachel Buffkin is originally from Hendersonville, TN where she grew up riding Quarter Horses and Tennessee Walking Horses. Rachel completed her undergraduate at the University of Tennessee, where she received her bachelors in Animal Science with a minor in biology in 2008, then continued her education at UT's College of Veterinary Medicine and received her DVM in May of 2012. Prior to working with Pinnacle, Rachel completed a year-long internship with Hassinger Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Aberdeen, NC. At Hassinger’s she had the opportunity to travel all over the country practicing sports medicine and emergency medicine at horse shows. Rachel is most interested in equine lameness, sports medicine, emergency medicine, and small animal medicine and surgery. She is very excited to begin working in East TN with the Pinnacle team! When she isn't working, Rachel enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and backpacking in the mountains with her husband, Chris. She and Chris’s family include their horse, Blaze, a Lab named Molly, a Heeler named Zip, and two cats, Scout and Ruby. |
